Exiting exhaust pipes

I am fabricating the exhaust pipes for my Moose,, with Lycoming engine. Where the exhaust exits the cowling, have you guys that are flying (I would think Rebel and Elite opinions would be the same on the Moose also) found anything that works better then another, as per performance or noise??? I am trying to keep drag and noise at a minimum.
No a factory or Forslinger or Aircraft Technology system won't fit. I have an odd engine. So must fabricate it all.
