citation hvlp

Steve

I liked the citation hvlp unit however couple of thoughts-
If you are bothered by orange peel (small humps and valleys in the
paint) Jim suggested reducing the paint flow and putting the spray gun
closer (6" or less) to the part being sprayed. That does help, at least
for small parts. I see they now have a 4 stage unit that is supposed to
be better.

After several hours total use, mine will trip a gfci protected power
supply after it warms up a bit. It is just a vacuum cleaner motor and I
haven't investigated further. I can't seem to get an email to them and
haven't bothered phoning them yet. It is a safety issue. However if you
are using a gfci protected power source you might keep in mind that
insulating the unit from damp earth and powering it without the 3rd
ground pin on the cord being connected will likely let you finish the
job in progress. Obviously not a recommended procedure for safety but
one can always turn it off by pulling the plug instead of touching the
unit.
For some reason they recommended a 1.0 mm nozzle which did not work
acceptably. A subsequently purchased 1.4 mm nozzle which worked fine for
everything that I sprayed on the Rebel. I would only recommend that size
for a new purchase.

Gee 2 months would be fast. Mine successfully moved to the airport
yesterday but I expect the paper war etc. to take well over another 2
months !

Thanks for the info. I ended up somewhat answering my question about 25*.
You will run out of aileron travel so a pair of micro switches and a bunch
of wires are to be installed. Finished all the wing/fairing jobs today and
am waiting for a new Citation 4 HVLP system to be delivered. I am basically
done all my metal work and only have two oil lines and a fuel line to make
up and can probably run the engine before tearing it all off again. Then off
to the paint booth. I have no idea where in the manuel the degree settings
are for the flaperons. I can honestly say that I have never seen them. If
God be willing, GMSG will fly within two months.
