[rebel-builders] Rebel Transponder

Post by Jean Poirier » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:35 am

Hello Jim

As for the com, 3 years ago I have bought a Icom IAC200 flip/flop digital
for a PA22 I had. One of my best purchase, price, size and transmission
were top notch!

I'm looking for a small com/transponder setup and am wondering what
suggestions you guys have? I have a Terra, but they were aquired by Free
Flight and do not support my models any more. I though I would sell them
on
ebay since they work and then get something that will be supported if it
breaks in the future.

A very small digital would be great.

Jim!

That was one that I was looking at, thanks. It is reasonably priced and
readily available.

Hi Jim !

I've had good luck with the VAL-COM units. They're about the same
size as the Icoms, but have a better display - lighted tubes that dim
automatically at night. Same flip-flop channel setup, but with flip
switch rather than push switch. Big attraction was price - $650 or
less .... and fabricated wiring harness for an extra $75.

[rebel-builders] Rebel Transponder

FWIW - I have dual VALCOM VHF in my SR and have had excellent results. My
only complaint with them is that when power is removed they do not hold the
last freq. but revert to 121.9 and 121.7 on the flip flops. No problem to
again select the desired freq. when re-powering for next flight. Size is
about the same as ICOM and price is much less.

[rebel-builders] Rebel Transponder

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:35 am

Hi Charlie !

I think there is a fix for the 'forgetfullness' - the manual says
something about adding power to a connection to retain settings. It
will pull the battery down a tiny bit - might be a problem if you
don't fly for months .... bit like a panel clock.

Glad to hear of others who like the VAL-COM.
