[rebel-builders] Component Kits vs The Whole Enchilada

Post by Rob Luce » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:26 am

I'm for the "everything at once" crowd myself.

I bought just the tail kit, did enough of it to
convince myself that the rest would be no problem,
then life got in the way and I stopped building for a
couple of years. I didn't have -that- much money
sitting in aluminum, so it didn't really bother me.

Late 2004, I picked up a partner and we ordered the
rest of the kit, FF and engine complete. It might not
have radios or paint, but if we put it together it'd
fly.

It now bugs me when I'm not building, I've made the
commitment, can't really back out at this point.

You should order the kit based on your own
personallity, not so much what other people have done.

There are other things to concider though that might
be more important. Do you have enough space to store
the whole kit. Do you have a good shop to work in.
Are you the type that will finish in a year, or will
you be interupted and take longer to finish (fast
completion = whole, interupts = parts). And most
importantly, do you have the money, what makes more
sense financially.

Good luck with your experiment.

Rob

Gents,

I am getting real close (Bob P's ears just perked
up) to making the leap for a Rebel kit (or several
kits). All I have to do is finish up some legal
work (eh, the ex didn't like small planes anyway, no
loss - I will choose smarter next time) and then I
will be free to order.

So, my question is whether or not I should go with
the smaller kits or the whole thing at once. I can
order a component kit now, but saving for the whole
thing in one shot might be another 8 month delay
(yuck). Has anyone seen an advantage (other than
price I know) in going with the whole thing at once?
Comments from either "side" are welcomed.

Thanks so much...standby Bob...I have the price
list in hand and my checkbook at the ready! :-)

Sincerely,
Rich
