Component Kits vs The Whole Enchilada

Gents,

I am getting real close (Bob P's ears just perked up) to making the leap for a Rebel kit (or several kits). All I have to do is finish up some legal work (eh, the ex didn't like small planes anyway, no loss - I will choose smarter next time) and then I will be free to order.

So, my question is whether or not I should go with the smaller kits or the whole thing at once. I can order a component kit now, but saving for the whole thing in one shot might be another 8 month delay (yuck). Has anyone seen an advantage (other than price I know) in going with the whole thing at once? Comments from either "side" are welcomed.

If I had not bought a partially completed kit, I would have gone the route of
the component kits. Think about $10-12k sitting in the bank collecting
interest while you are working on the tail section.

Plus, while you are taking your time with one component, the others that you
have not purchased yet "may" come later with updated factory mods.

I am thinking of doing a partial glass panel in my Rebel and have the money
for it now. My Rebel will not be flying for at least 6-10 months. Why buy the
panel now when I know that in 8 months, there will be a better and maybe
cheaper version available? THis may not directly apply to the Rebel, but that
would be my thought process.

NEVER buy Avionics until you are ready to install them ...AND do not install
them until you are ready to wire, connect the battery, and test fly! I learned
this the hard way a few years back ... saved thousands .. the company went
out of business within a year ... I "threw away" a TERRA stack and bought
new radios (I'll see your thousands saved, and raise you that plus a few
thousand more) when the airplane was ready to fly ...(They all went out of
order within three months of completion of the Bonanza restoration.) Anybody
need a yellow tagged Terra transponder? (not worth the box it came in!)
