Defrost vents

Post by Allen Hewko » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:22 am

Hi all,
Has anyone found the need to install windshield defrost vents, and if so how
did they go about doing it?
Thanks in advance,
Allen H

Defrost vents

Post by Mike Kimball » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:22 am

I used some 2 inch aluminum flanges for ducting that ACS sells. Part number
10350-8 is two inch. They sell a bunch of different sizes. I riveted them
to the bottom of the glare shield, one on the left and one on the right. I
found a plastic thingy that is normally used on the end of electrical
conduit to protect the wires where they come out that fit right in the 2
inch tube and gave me a nice clean look on the top of the glare shield. I
have some cloth glued to the glare shield that gives it a finished look and
the plastic thingy hides the rough cut in the cloth for the defrost vents.

Defrost vents

Post by sburg58 » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:22 am

Here goes my first post. I recently installed defrost on a one of a kind
homebuilt. I found two round plastic vents from a "U-pull" auto wrecking
yard. A 2 inch scat tube fastens directly on with a hose clamp, they have
two attach points for screws. They sit level with the top of the panel, swivel
and shut off when not needed. Total cost $1 each.
