Rick,

Sorry, I just now see that you did note that the new MAM FUS-360 is
thicker.

Dale is producing two parts, FUS-360 and FUS-436L+R that are both shock
mounted using the same rubber compound used by Cessna in their 185 tail
parts. You have to order those direct from Dale.

The new stinger will NOT work with the existing pivot, FUS-437, as it is
1 1/16" at that point.

You do have to order the other parts, e.g. bulkheads, etc, from Murphy,
not from Dale (I don't know what the cost of the Murphy parts are).
Note: You'll also need new rudder cables and nicro-press sleeves, as you
have to cut the rudder cables to replace FUS-358.

As far as additional enhancements, I've heard that a couple of folks are
making different custom brackets that are out of one solid piece to
replace FUS-360, FUS-358 and FUS-1051. Those are one-off designs that
have yet to see any taxi or landings.

Ted

Rick,

Additional changes not noted in your below email:

* FUS-358 is now thicker at 0.040"

* FUS-360 is thicker at 0.25"

* New side-to-side horizontal reinforcement "plate" in the form of
FUS-344 (seen here:
http://www.i1ci.com/flying/Moose/Tail/I ... SnbrsW.jpg)

* Additionally, the new FUS-360 is longer, adding two new bolts at the
bottom to better attach FUS-360 to FUS-358 and FUS-1051.

I have 28 total landings now on the new system including 22 on rough
grass/dirt. My tail remains totally solid with no play whatsoever in
the system.

Hope this answers your questions,

Ted Waltman

Ted, all,

At the moment I have a stock SR2500 tail. I have kept up a bit on this
saga and Ted's experience. I am firmly confinced that what I currently
have is not adequate. I have reviewed the Murphy Tech Bulletin. Looks
to me like they have done the following:

1) added flex in the tail spring/stinger (Part LG 0066)
2) changed the pivot to accomodate the new stinger diameter of 1 1/16"
(Part FUS 0437)
3) Beefed up the stinger attach point (FUS 0360)
4) Added some 1"x1" angle to provide more strength. (FUS 1051 F, M, R)

I don't see much else, did I miss anything? I am concerned that this
may not be sufficient. My largest concern is the two points of
attachment, the FUS 0437 and FUS 0360 have not shock absorbing elements.
All of the shock would need to be absorbed by the new Stinger.

Dale, I greatly appreciate your stepping in here and grabbing the bull
by the horns. If we get stingers thru you do we order the other parts
thru MAM. Sorry if I am a little behind here! Am I correct that your
stinger will be 1 1/16 diameter and the current pivot will not work?

Ted, given that you have had these for a while, what have you seen? Are
there additional "enancements" beyond what is in the Tech Bulletin?

Thanks,

Rick Muller

Dale,

Questions on the new stinger:

- Could you please elaborate a bit for me on the strength, durability,
lifetime fatigue issues for the new stinger out of 6150 vs 4130 like I
have?

- What angle will the stinger be bent at?

- Will you have one or two holes in the forward end? In other words,
one hole for compatibility with the Murphy designed FUS-360 or two
holes
for your design of FUS-360?

- Will you pre-drill the two holes at the rear end--the swivel attach
holes--for 1/4" or 3/8" bolts?

Thank you,

Ted

Well guys the time has come.
Dale will be doing a production run of the new stingers next week.

Please confirm your order to Dale before 12-31-05.

Contact Dale at: dfultz17086@earthlink.net A.S.A.P.! !! ! ! ! !! !! !

The cost will not exceed $300.00 US plus the cost of shipping.

The stingers will be made from 6150 spring steel.

There will NOT be another production run for several months ! ! ! ! !
!

We have 14 people that said they want them and 4 maybes.

Dale is fronting the cost to produce the new stingers and can't be
making a lot of extras. This is a huge expense for a builder to do for
everyone. Lets try and get him the money A.S.A.P. If you don't order
now you may have to wait for a few months until another 10 people want
them. Sooooo confirm your order now. I have.

Thanks Dale for all the work you have put into this project! ! ! ! !
!! We all appreciate it.

I hope I haven't offended any one with this notice but, it's the only
way I have to reach everyone in a timely fashion.

Thanks Ted... I have sent the below email to Dale. Your thoughts about the
thicker FUS 358 versus adding a second layer of .040 2024 as a doubler. If
I did the doubler and left a cut out for the cables I might save the cables
and not need to take as much apart.

Dale,

Thanks for the quick response. A few others pointed me to the files on the
server and I see what you have done and LIKE it. A point I forgot to
mention. The plane has never left the ground much less the garage. Most
of the airframe is done, but if I am going to do something like this now is
the time. I don't believe I have any cracks!!!

I went and looked at my tail to refresh my memory. I have done some
enhancing of the standard 2500 install. Attached is a word file that I
hope will show the enhancements. I think I might be able to install much
of the parts without completely disassembly, but you've been there so you
tell me. I would rather prevent a problem now than fix one later. I'm
sure I can get any rivet out that is in there now and replace it with a
AN3-xx bolt.

What parts do I need from you and what do they cost?
What parts do I need from MAM, I can get the costs from the Service
Bulletin?

And for the final great debate question.... In you humble opinion, do I
ditch the MAM tail wheel or get a new one, i.e. Elite nose wheel?

Appreciate your interest here!
