Elevator Trim Assembly

In laying out the cut lines on the left elevator for the trim assembly, the
cut line on the top skin (on the elevator side of the cut) intersects one
rib/skin rivet hole and is within 1 1/2D of another skin/rib rivet hole.

Would it be permissable to narrow the width of the trim assembly 1/4 inch?
In other words could I increase the distance measured from the spar tube
rivet line, and make the cuts at 8 3/4 inches and 8 15/16 inches
respectively?

Or perhaps it would be better to increase the width of the trim? I'd have to
go more than 1/4 inch change though to do this or run into the same problem
on the bottom skin.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Roger,
There should be no problem moving the trim line a bit to give
adequate rivet clearance - just check carefully top & bottom, BEFORE
cutting !! :-) The whole section on installing the trim tab is one
of the first challenges most builders face - you're doing the right
things !

The trim tab is very effective, and I doubt 1/4" will cause
ANY noticeable difference in its effectiveness. This is one of the
nice things about building your own Rebel - you can make minor adjustments
for improved safety or appearance ! You are quite correct in asking
first, though, as some seemingly minor things CAN bite you !!!!

You might want to mount the trim motor on a separate plate,
rivetted at the corners, so you could remove it easily for service later -
(might be a loooong time - it doesn't get used much ! :-) )

Keep going - it IS worth it !! :-)
