Archives photos all "untitled.bmp"

[Scott Aldrich]

Mike, how come all the archive pictures now get turned into "untitled"
bitmap files? Harder to download having to rename and they are larger and
slower.

logged in remotely to a system at work and tried it from there... worked
fine there too. What OS and browser are you using?

Windows XP. IE 6.0
Any picture I go to when I right click to "save picture as" I get untitled
and only the option to save as .bmp. If no one else is getting this
something must have gotten set screwy on my system.

Dunno Guys !! Must be something to do with changed Win-Doze
settings !!!! ;-) :-)

Tried it in both Konqueror and Firefox 1.5, on Knoppix Linux
- no problem either way ! :-) You do have to click on the
picture (bottom of screen), and choose Save As ... and type in
the name you want - ending in .jpg ....

Chuck WinDoze and avoid all those viruses, re-boots,
and Blue Screen of Death's !! :-) ;-^)

I think sometimes the problem is that the server can get verrrry
slow sometimes, and you only get part of the file header on the
d/l, which confuses your system as to what kind of file it is ....
Sometimes even just viewing the pic will give a screen full of
ascii in that case ...

OK, I see what's happening, you're clicking on the file name and it's
displaying the picture, then you're right clicking on the picture and
getting this behavior. Don't know why it's doing that, I'll play around
with it... but in the mean time, if you want to save the picture instead of
right clicking on the picture to save, right click on the file name and
select save target as... this will save it properly.

means the archive site would have to go too, since the software only runs on

Your right, when I save it, it only lets me save as a bmp. I guess I
never
done this before on the Rebel site so don't know if it's always been a

OK, I see what's happening, you're clicking on the file name and it's
displaying the picture, then you're right clicking on the picture and
getting this behavior. Don't know why it's doing that, I'll play around
with it... but in the mean time, if you want to save the picture instead of
right clicking on the picture to save, right click on the file name and
select save target as... this will save it properly.

problem on his system and is looking into it.

Hi Mike !

Suspect you were right when you said it was because Wildcat presents
an html page - this confuses the browsers, which react differently to
html than JPGs ..... just peeked at the Properties - shows the
picture at the bottom as html-fdwnld-something.... saves ok if
saved as xxxx.jpg though !

Odd thing for me is that I don't get a choice of Open With,
or Save, by clicking on the file name. Again - the browser sees
the link as an html link, so just opens it......

Sigh .... Aren't computers fun !! ;-) :-)
Just spent about 5 hours wiping an old 80 GB drive and installing
the latest Knoppix/Debian 4.0.2 from DVD - a LOT of software !
Time is long because I'm transferring all my old settings &
files --- or trying to ! :-)
