Depending on the exhaust...when new most come ready to cut down to fit O-320
and O-235 and are correct width for O-360 to start off. Foslington x-over
and Mam's old cross over where this way.
Intake box isn't going to fit the -5 carbs larger bolt spread than the -4

Which one Mike...the x over straight pipes or the double can muffler one?
The Cross over needed to be cut if I remember right and in either case if
they come up short at the slip joints wouldn't be a big deal to weld a tube
extension in to give you the proper engagement. The double can muffler was
set up for the O-235 so you'd definitely need to weld some in for it. I
stretched it as far as it would go to put it on my O-320 at engine change.
It sure wouldn't go any further without welding in some extensions.

hi wayne
dont actually recall, only peaked in box when got it, but i dont think it
has mufflers so i think the straight pipes is what i got, so the pipes are
same dia. for both however, did not know that
am also wondering about the forward section of rebel vs elite, is it same
except elite has heavier sheet metal, cause i had to rebuild mine and put
heavier sheet metal in too

0-320 vs 0-360
Hi Mike !
Be careful which model of O-360 !! Some have problems, others
may be difficult to mount and/or cowl ....
Personally, I would be loathe to mount a <Lycoming O-360> in a
Rebel. The Lyc has vibration ranges, depending on model and type
of propeller you use -- NO continuous operation betweem 1900
and 2450 RPM - right where you might want to cruise !
There are severe crankshaft harmonics, and they WILL break !!
(I've seen videos that would make your hair stand up ! )
Also, expect more problems with cylinder cracking - especially
on older model Lycs. They really are happiest cruising at
2600 + rpm --- and that means more fuel - 100 LL at Brampton
was $1.57 a liter last time I looked !
Pierre chose a <Superior XP-360>, and then had it 'improved'
(polished, ported, balanced) - so it has no vibration limits !
The Superior engines really are superior - the cylinders have
improved designs, with more meat around the exhaust valves, better
flow, and are sturdier. The crankcases are also stronger, and the
cranks have been improved. They are also less expensive - a new
engine could cost less than an overhauled Lyc. ! With all the mods,
his installed weight was very close to an old Lyc. O-320 --- older
Lyc. O-360's would be a lot heavier - as much as 50 - 70 lb. !
This could give you a real challenge getting the C of G into a
pleasant range.
