Moose elev trim tab horn

Post by Myles Cane » Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:18 pm

Hi there,
Sorry 'bout that, new buider to the site and I haven't posted anything yet.
I'll try typing it out in plain text. Garry told me as much about the HTML
thing. SO, at any rate, I am building Moose s/n 293 and I already have most
of the tail kit built (it was purchased 4+ yrs. ago)
I am just finishing the elev. tab and I seem to remember seeing or hearing
somewhere about the length of the tab horn being to short and causing the
trim motor to "stall" at higher airspeeds and that someone lengthened the
trim tab horn and the problem went away?Anyone?
Thanks

Myles sometimes the message is blank like that if you are using HTML to
compose, try switching to "plain text". Although the software at DCSOL is
supposed to convert it.

The current trim tab is taller and longer than the original, and they're
easy to recognize... they are the same length as the trim tab itself, where
as the old ones were only a 1.5" inches long or so. You should also have a
piece of aluminum tubing to place over the all thread push rod once you got
the length right. Murphy sent me 3 sets of these new parts when they made
them available... if you didn't get them, send me your address and I'll send
you one of mine.

Moose elev trim tab horn

Post by Myles Cane » Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:18 pm

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I've got lots of scrap in .065", .040" and a
bending brake, so if you could tell me the overall height of the piece as
well as material thickness, I can just whip some up and save you the trouble
of mailing.(not that I don't appreciate the offer!)
Thanks

Moose elev trim tab horn

Post by Myles Cane » Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:18 pm

Thanks a whole bunch Mike!
That got me going fast. Couldn't ask for a more precise description. I'm
using an old aircraft torque tube with rod ends so I didn't need the tube
anyways.
Thanks again and happy building!
