Ted, are the brackets FUS-436L and 436R that the pivot ball (FUS-437) mounts
into still aluminum? Weren't the mount holes on those wowed out on some
aircraft (both around the ball and where they mount to the fin (Bob
Howells)?? I know someone out there has made their own out of steel (that
may have been Bob also). I agree the FUS-438 could be left out. I remember
being told once that was the "fix" to stop it from cracking, cut it off or
leave it out.

Moose tail: Question on FUS-436L & 436R
Yes, the FUS-436L+R are still aluminum; there is no update (to my
knowledge) to these brackets.
No, I did not see any "wowing" or hole enlargement on the FUS-436L+R
brackets--where they mount to the pivot (FUS-437). There's no way (that
I can imagine) the 8 (?) mounting holes in FUS-436 would enlarge--if so
one would have a major, major problem!
I didn't mean to imply that the FUS-438 could be totally left out...just
that one would probably be Ok using the existing aluminum one rather
than the new steel one.

You didn't imply that the FUS-438 could be left out, my bad, poor wording
when I said I agree. I guess what I meant was the bottom part really does
nothing structurally and that is why Darryl suggested not riveting the wrap
to it or cutting it off (but leaving the upper part on the fin).
