I have put the wings on my Rebel (#242) and find that the forward
wing-fuselage mounting point has quite a bit of space in the
fuselage attach bracket as if there should be spacers inserted.
The manual does not call for any spacers. So my question is
"Should one insert spacers so that the bolts hold the wing rigid
in the fore-aft plane?"

Yes. In my manual (687R) Chapter 18.1 Wing Attach there are two notations
"NOTE: Ensure the fittings are centered and the legs of the fittings are
parallel to each other. Spacers such as washers must be used to ensure
straight fit. There should be no play between the fittings".
(this one in bold for emphasis)
"On final installation of the wings you will need to make spacers or washers
to fill the gap between the front wing fitting and the fuselage attach point."

Without those spacers, any fore and aft forces on the wing would go into
the rear wing attach point only and neither the rear wing nor fuselage
bracket is designed to handle those from what I can see.

Rebel wing attachment question
This reminds me of something that happened with my construction that
surprised me and worried me a bit. I think I've asked the list before but
just in case:
When I attached my wings I found that with the rear spar fitting in place,
the forward spar fitting was all the way forward against the square tube
cross-member. In fact, I had added the doubler to the square tube per the
moose upgrade and had to move it to the front side of the square tube to
make it fit. (Moose upgraders have to do this anyway because of a larger
front spar fitting.) I expected the forward wing spar fitting to be in the
middle somewhere, requiring spacers on either side. Instead, I'll only have
a spacer on the back side. Anybody see a problem with this?
