First Flight of Rebel
First Flight of Rebel
Hi all,
Time for another great post. Ren Sagert received his kit Nov 13 1993.I
thinks it's #319 but don't quote me on that. I was allowed to fly it for the
first time Tues the 4th 10:30 am. So now it's N51CG. It is a 0-320 no firewall
change one electronic ign. and one mag., Ellison throttle body and a Prince
prop. I don't recall the pitch and length, but I'll continue the posts as he
goes through the testing procedure. 972 empty,with a monster battery way back
and an empty cg of 12.7! Flew for about an hour, but couldn't do much more
than break in the engine as the airspeed indicator was inop. I had tested it on
the ground, but we later found a couple of chunks of paint and other debris
that must have allowed a gentle puff to pass, but when good airspeed was
applied it remained at zero. The flight was uneventful in most respects, other
than the YAHOO factor had the needle pegged :):). I think I can make better
landings without an airspeed indicator!!
As for the airplane, it's painted in US Coast Guard colors and a nice 10"
round tail emblem that reads " support search and rescue" on the top of the
circle, and "GET LOST" on the bottom of the circle! Great fun! I'll post some
pic's when I get them.

Congratulations to Ken and his wife for their first flight! That's always and exciting day. Does Ken have his air speed tube connected to MAM's pitot? That could be why his airspeed indicator is not correct. Disconnect the tube from the airspeed indicator and leave it open to cabin air. I bet it will work fine.
