Can't remember if I told you this on the phone during my trip.

Al Paxhia invited Ryan Mowat to land at Al's strip sometime. Ryan took
a look at it and said "No thanks." Apparently it's 2,000' but rough and
with tall trees at both ends. Ryan jokingly said Al "plants it" rather
than "landing it." <grin>

I hear that Al replaced his stinger last fall and that it already has a
bend in it. Don't know if there are any other issues with his replaced,
beefed-up, system.

Mine's Ok, though taking those 2.5 miles or so from the Lake Hood gravel
strip to transient parking got on my nerves. I can live with taking
short distances elsewhere. It's Ok on gravel, although I cannot get it
to "turn on a dime" like one normally can with tailwheel planes without
using hard braking.

I've heard Al's strip can be tough. These things should handle that though.
Hap said Bob Howell has been through a couple of tail stingers already. You
mentioned someone said going to a longer stinger for more shock or flex
would be a thought but I think the stinger itself is already too flexible.
Of course stiffer is going to send more loads to the fuselage, which of
course is why the guys are working on the Cessna style with the shock
mounts.
