Thanks Al,
I found the same problem you mention with the corner wraps, you explained it
quite well.
I'm looking at the fus-85 and fus-86. The manual says I need to cut off the
fus-85 to match the angle on the fus-86. Well, there isn't enough material
on the steel fus-85 to cut any thing off. It looks like they are shorter
than the manual is showing. This allows the aluminum fus-86 to stick out of
the steel fus85, not flush like the manual says. Have others had this same
problem and is it a problem? Looks like I should have the engine mount
before I go punching those holes in the firewall. It's on order.

Take a look in the archives at Floor.jpg. If you don't want anything on
the
outside, you can't get a floor much flatter than that. And do put a break
in the side skins - looks better. I brought FUS-452 aft around the strut
bracket and rivited it to the door post, but did have trouble getting a
good
fit below that where it curves round to line up with the floor, as it
introduces a compound curve. No matter what I did, there always seemed to
be some residual stress in the material, which would clearly lead to it
cracking. I wound up cutting the area out and putting in a separate part.
As Nigel says, some careful work with a shrinker/stretcher might do it.

The forward carrythrough must have its ends angled back to clear the
452.
I
had already cut mine back before I fitted the 452, but still had to
file
it
back on the lower edges to allow a small clearance to prevent it
catching
the 452.

I did not add a fold below the FUS-9, but am still happy with the way
it
looks.

I replaced the avex rivets in my door post with cherrymax all the way
to
make it stronger. I've also added Wayne's firewall stiffeners, and 2
under
floor strips of witches hat to strengthen the under rudder pedal area.

I have it this way also and I don't like the way it hugs the
carrythrough.
Is it supposed to be like that? I just as soon cut it short of the
strut
bracket.
Also, I forgot to ask. The side panels are mentioned in the manual of a
crease in them near where they attach to the carrythrough vertical.

the
fus 9??

Can't help you much there, Mike. In my kit, both parts were aluminum, and
it was really just a matter of angling the ends to match the angle of the
firewall. What I did find is that the bottom of the recess which takes the
head of the engine mount bolt was not quite as flat as I'd have liked it to
be, especially if you wanted to put a washer under bol head - but it's not
an area you'd want to file too much. Also, the engine mount bolts specified
were 1/8" too long. You really need to select them once you get the engine
mount, as the engine mounts are not 100% consistent, apparently.
