wing root alignment

Post by Jesse Jenks » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:43 am

I am ready to drill through the leading edge skins into the LE ribs. I am
worried about getting the forward attach fitting in the right place relative
to the rear one since +or- 1/32" inboard/outboard measured at the fitting
could translate to inches of for/aft misalignment at the tip when the wing
is bolted to the fuselage. With the LE skin clecod to the one hole on each
rib near the main spar, I can push the front spar in and out quite a bit.
The only thing mentioned for alignment in the manual is the standard "make
sure you can see your line on the rib, and start drilling". It seems like
alignment at this step should be more precise. Is there a good way to check
the attach fittings for squareness without a giant size framing square?
Thanks.
Jesse

I looked at a thread started by Mike Betti on the same subject recently.
What did you decide Mike, and how did your wings come out?
Thanks.

wing root alignment

You know, when I read your email I thought that sounded like the problem I was having too. I just can't remember the outcome other than taking some advice in the thread you mentioned. It still remains to be seen when it comes time to mount the wings if they will be perpendicular to the fuselage.
