Hi,
I am working on installing the eleven main ribs called out in step
37 of the wing assembly manual. I find the ribs can slide up and down
about 1/4th of an inch inside the main spar web. Is there a critical
location to install these ribs or do I make sure the first web on the
top side of the main ribs is in the same line as the top web on the
main spar? The bottom side of the rib is on the work table since the
spar is clamped to the table.
Also, is the new Murphy builders manual for the Rebel worth the
money? I think MAM should send out the updates to the manual to the
builders as they rewrite the manual. If it needs to be rewriten,
shouldn't we know about it? Thanks, Bob

Wing Main Ribs
I used a pair of 8" strips of aluminum that I lay over
the rib flanges and spar flanges and clamped with side
clecos. These stips of aluminum acted as virtual skins
for the rib you are working on to help the flanges
align for best skin covering.

Wing Main Ribs
Hi Bob
When I did my wing I just set the ribs on the table per the manual. This was
not really a good idea as the upper camber of the airfoil curve (on each rib)
did not meet the spar to the same spot on each rib location. When I got ready
to put on the top skin you could see some of the rib should have been slid
down or up a little bit where they attached to the main spar. I would try to
center the ribs to get a flat and smooth top and bottom wing skin to main
spar area.
