Prop extension

Post by Rebflyer » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:35 am

I'm begining to wonder aabout my e-mail out bound. I have a 3.5 with the
7/16 bolt holes and the 4.75 pattern. I believe it came from a 0-320 on a 172.
I dropped Dale a line but I guess it did not go through. Hate to run #'s on
this page but 25.00 plus shipping sounds good to me.
Also, I dropped you a line off site too Wayne, did you get it? I have
some questions about selling and delivering a kitfox to Ontario from Michigan.
Do you have any helpful hints? I tried to do it off page but I guess the
server I was going through wouldn't let me. Phone #'s would be great. Curt

Fred Darnell

Prop Extension

Post by Fred Darnell » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:39 am

I'm trying to finish up my Super Rebel with an IO-540 and Hartzell
constant speed prop. The manual calls out a 2" prop spacer and judging
from the curvature of the lower cowl and the amount the starter
protrudes, I'm guessing the 2" is required. Does anyone know where to
get these 2" prop spacers and are the even appropriate with the 260hp
IO-540? Hartzell (at least the tech support guy I talked to) was helpful
but knew nothing of a spacer. My prop is HC-C2YK-1BF/F8477-2.

Thanks,
Fred Darnell

Prop Extension

Post by rognal » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:39 am

Fred,

For my IO-240/Rebel I purchased a prop spacer from:

Saber Manufacturing, Inc.
3601 Nassau Court
Granbury, TX 76049

817-326-6293

Sam Tilleman-Proprietor

The company was recommended to me by Charley Denny at Sensenich. The spacer
is very well made, machined, and finished. $462.00 USD for a two inch spacer,
crush plate, bolts, etc. Your cost may vary...

Al,

Murphy confirmed the instructions are for the 4 cyl. Elite. I have a few
questions to ask you directly based on your experience with this prop.
If you don't mind either email me your phone number or call me at
704-509-9411. Your help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Fred

Prop Extension

Post by fdarnell » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:39 am

Thanks Al and Dale. I just got a confirmation from Murphy that a spacer is
intended for the 4 cyl / Elite installation.

When I mounted my spinner on the crank prop flange it seemed my starter
protruded too far forward and interfered with the lower cowl and I began to
suspect an extension would be necessary. I think the ring-gear mounted
spinner I had was the problem. I've learned from several others that a
flange mounted spinner is best. Once I have one I'll try again.

Al, what spinner do you have?

Thanks for the help.
