brake lines

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:20 am

Should be that 1/4" clear/yellowy plastic line that came with your kit!? If
not any hydraulic/pneumatic supply house will have/get it. Part # for the
3/8" diameter used on the amphibs is NR-6-048...so suspect the 1/4" is
NR-4-048..I'll look on the stuff I have when I return to the shop.... after
my sandwich!

Or slip some heat shrink tube over it in the area's exposed before
installing the fittings. Same goes for the hydraulics on the amphibs.
Note:
My Rebel has been flying for 10 years now. Have never had as much as a
weaping brake line. 1/4" Parker parflex... pedal to wheel
caliper...although
I am stored indoors...although don't think that really matters as my line
runs inside the gear covers so only part exposed is a very short section
right at the caliper.

The plastic brake line can be easily covered from UV in exposed areas
with
aluminum tape.

brake lines

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:20 am

NR-4-035 is the part # for 1/4" Clear Nylon Parker Parflex. Use the brass
compression fittings with this. I prefer the white plastic ferrals, but U
can use the brass if need be. Yes the rubber hose and barbed hose fittings
are for the reservoir to top of the brake pedal cylinders.

brake lines

Post by Walter Klatt » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:20 am

I haven't followed all of this thread, so don't know if it was
mentioned, but I assume that everyone is aware of the gun drilled
gear option, which means you don't need external brake lines all
the way down to your brakes.

installing the fittings. Same goes for the
hydraulics on the amphibs.
Note:
My Rebel has been flying for 10 years now. Have
never had as much as a
weaping brake line. 1/4" Parker parflex... pedal to wheel
caliper...although
I am stored indoors...although don't think that
really matters as my line
runs inside the gear covers so only part exposed is
a very short section
right at the caliper.

Yes, the lines are just drilled into the gear. You can ask MAM about that.

I haven't followed all of this thread, so don't know if it was
mentioned, but I assume that everyone is aware of the gun drilled
gear option, which means you don't need external brake lines all
the way down to your brakes.

Should be that 1/4" clear/yellowy plastic line that
came with your kit!? If
not any hydraulic/pneumatic supply house will have/get
it. Part # for the
3/8" diameter used on the amphibs is NR-6-048...so
suspect the 1/4" is
NR-4-048..I'll look on the stuff I have when I return
to the shop.... after
my sandwich!

brake lines

Post by Ken » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:28 am

MAM supplies 1/4" parkerflex. My question is why ;) ?
I keep seeing 3/16 plastic brake lines on other aircraft and 3/16 will
tolerate much higher pressure. I looked up all the specs once and
thought 1/4 should be fine but there are sufficient reports of problems
with the 1/4 that I wonder if it is the best choice. Also I thought the
fittings looked like they were intended for a greater wall thickness
than the 0.035 Parker flex...

Mike - regarding the nicopress gauge, if you have a measuring caliper to
check the squeezed sleeves I can look up or measure the specs for you.
The gauge is just a slot to make sure the sleeve has been squeezed
enough. Worth checking as stuff happens and all squeezing devices are
subject to manufacturing defects, wear, etc.

Yes if transitioning to 1/4" metal tube. Just add an AN819-4d and
AN818-4d and flare the end of the tube.
