Elite flaps

Post by mbetti » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:12 am

I am building the flaps and don't quite get the instuctions on one part. It says to dimple all the holes in all three center hinge leading edge ribs for the cover. Elsewhere, on the cover drawing, it shows only dimple the top 3 rows, kind of like the other leading edge pieces are.
So tell me, what holes did others dimple in the center cover?
Thanks,
Mike Betti

Hi Mike, you dimple the top three in every rib and the skin the length of
the flap... this is for clearance when mounted to the wing. As for the
center hinge point, you have the cover, AIL-403 I think, that goes over the
hole... this cover get's back drilled through the skin before you attach the
skin to the frame, and the holes you back drill through are out board of the
two ribs in this area. This means that every hole on these ribs and the
associated skin holes need to be dimpled so that the cover will lie flat...
that includes the first couple of holes on the bottom side where the cover
goes. Also, remember to dimple the holes in the cover that fall in the same
area as the top three the rest of the way across.

I have some pretty good pictures of this while doing my ailerons on my
construction site. The pic is near the bottom of this post...
