murphy fire wall forward kit

Post by Jeffrey Steenson » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:06 am

Dear Mike,

It's a convenience to have all the parts in there, but I don't think there
is any cost savings. I asked MAM to send me the shipping list for the kit,
and then I started comparing with Aircraft Spruce. Seemed to me to be a
wash.

I agree with many others here that the baffle kit from Van's Aircraft will
make your life much fuller and happier than the aluminum sheet and minimal
instructions contained in the FWF kit.

Clay Smith

murphy fire wall forward kit

Post by Clay Smith » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:09 am

I suggest that you price around and pick and choose. You may not want
everything in the kit. I went to a local alternator rebuild shop and got
them to custom build me a light weight alternator with heavy duty diodes and
stator (60 amp)and had it reconfigured for external regulation ... and still
saved. I would buy the throttle/mixture control bracket that bolts to the
engine instead of attaching the bracket to the firewall as MAM suggest. I
think you can get that bracket at Van's..? Also, from what I hear and what
I know now, I would probably buy the baffle kit from Van's ... the
instructions and paper templates from MAM are not very accurate ...at least
not for my engine and cowl combo.
