I'm taking my Sensenich 74x56 prop off my 0320 150 HP Rebel amphib and
getting it re-pitched Thursday to 54 or 52. I can't make up my mind. Any
suggestions from the group?

Re-pitching a prop
I just read an article in Kitplane magazine about a guy who put a McCauley
84 x 44 on an 0320 150 hp North Star. According to the article it is supposed
to be a match for this engine.

That's a "borer" prop Bruce...don't go there if you want to go anywhere! You
might get take off performance...but you sure won't get any cruise. I think
it was Walter that was going to borrow someones to try at one time I

Yes, Wayne, that was our mutual friend Ron B's prop on his
Supercub here. I still haven't tried it, but the offer is still
open to me. My problem was that it didn't have a spacer which
would be needed with my cowl. However, if he buys that Rebel he
is after, he can try it himself.
Bruce, I'm still happy with my 74 X 54, and if I did it again,
would stick with that same pitch. I turn about 2720 flat out, so
am not wasting hp at the top end either. I understand the
Lycoming torque drops off at higher RPM's.
On the other hand, if you're tired of always looking up at my
tail after we take-off, you might want to go for 52. Not sure if
you will be able to keep up with me then on cruise, though. ;>)))
I would do something about that cowl, too, Bruce. Keep in mind
when you pitch your prop down, you will be producing more hp on
your climbs than before, and therefore more heat.

The 82 x 44 McCauley was a nice thought for a few minutes. If I bought a new
prop I would have to investigate the new electric variable pitch composite
props...$$$. Or the Prince prop. For now I guess the Sensenich will have to
stay.
I sort of liked looking at you tail, Walter. It was better than following
the little pointing airplane in my GPS. And it allows me more time spent
viewing the beautifully BC country side instead of navigating.

I borrowed a 52 and tried it, way too fine ,had Leavens repitch our 56 to 54
