Beautiful day for flying

I know some of you hate these...but others use them as fuel to get back in
the shop and get to work!!

Sun has been shinning for a couple days around here, so Daryl and I took
advantage of it and headed out this morning at 9am for Lake Temagami.... to
check on the cottage. Managed to get about 71 Knots going North into the
wind....but even still we were on the ice in front of the cottage in 1 hr -
45 minutes. Driving in the summer this is a 4hr-15minute trip minimum with a
lead foot and sometimes 5+ depending on traffic. 135 nautical miles via air
and over 230 statute miles by road.

We checked out the cottage and then taxied down the lake to the town dock
and went for lunch...then blasted off and toured the lake..following the
plowed ice road checking out where the ice huts were located for future
reference in the summer. Past a group of 6 dog sled teams going down the
Northeast arm and then we headed towards home South bound. Did a lot of
weaving around, checked out a friends hunt camp for them North of Parry
Sound and then followed the shoreline from Parry Sound home using the
islands as a slalom course at 75agl.

Also talked briefly with Bob Fisher when we were clearing traffic at the
mouth of Parry Sound Harbour. Bob was landing at Georgian Bay municipal and
yes he is still flying his amphibs without problem and cycling his gear to
boot without issue!

With all the meandering on the way home, and a loop around town when we got
here, we were still only 1hr - 45 minutes as we came home at about 95 knots.

Real neat pics, Wayne, reminds me of where I grew up as a kid in
Manitoba, except we didn't have airplanes then, but used to get
around pretty good on the Skidoos and the old Snow Cruiser.

We had a nice day here yesterday, so made it out to the cabin on
floats at Harrison Lake. Today it was back to rain and drizzle,
good excuse to get some work done in the hangar.

Just my usual inflatable life vest. Had an interesting landing,
though. The lake level had come way up because of the recent warm
weather and rains, so a whole bunch of crap (little sticks and
logs, and a few bigger ones) were floating free. There was no
wind at all, so the water was pure glass, and then to top it off,
right by our bay, where I land, there was a little rain shower,
so couldn't see very well either out my windshield. Anyway,
managed to miss everything on the landing, and it stopped raining
right after that.

Real neat pics, Wayne, reminds me of where I grew up

as a kid in

Manitoba, except we didn't have airplanes then, but

used to get

around pretty good on the Skidoos and the old Snow Cruiser.

We had a nice day here yesterday, so made it out to

the cabin on

floats at Harrison Lake. Today it was back to rain

and drizzle,

good excuse to get some work done in the hangar.

Just my usual inflatable life vest. Had an interesting landing,
though. The lake level had come way up because of the recent warm
weather and rains, so a whole bunch of crap (little sticks and
logs, and a few bigger ones) were floating free. There was no
wind at all, so the water was pure glass, and then to top it off,
right by our bay, where I land, there was a little rain shower,
so couldn't see very well either out my windshield. Anyway,
managed to miss everything on the landing, and it stopped raining
right after that.

hi guys Yes, it was a great day in the north I almost landed on the
floats, wheels up, on the snowmobile trail formed by many sleds travelling
across the bay. But chickened out in case I bent the floats. I should
build a set of skis for the bottom of the floats. Have a plan that I
believe will work.

I would really like to fly to Sun and Fun in April. Ideally with a
lightweight seaplane pilot to share costs and piloting duties. Any one in
this area interested?(Parry Sound or south)

Someone had the name and number of the Feds in the States relative to
crossing the USA without a transponder etc Walter? maybe

I know some of you hate these...but others use them as fuel to get
back in
the shop and get to work!!

Sun has been shinning for a couple days around here, so Daryl and I
took
advantage of it and headed out this morning at 9am for Lake
Temagami.... to
check on the cottage. Managed to get about 71 Knots going North into
the
wind....but even still we were on the ice in front of the cottage in 1
hr -
45 minutes. Driving in the summer this is a 4hr-15minute trip minimum
with a
lead foot and sometimes 5+ depending on traffic. 135 nautical miles
via air
and over 230 statute miles by road.

We checked out the cottage and then taxied down the lake to the town
dock
and went for lunch...then blasted off and toured the lake..following
the
plowed ice road checking out where the ice huts were located for
future
reference in the summer. Past a group of 6 dog sled teams going down
the
Northeast arm and then we headed towards home South bound. Did a lot
of
weaving around, checked out a friends hunt camp for them North of
Parry
Sound and then followed the shoreline from Parry Sound home using the
islands as a slalom course at 75agl.

Also talked briefly with Bob Fisher when we were clearing traffic at
the
mouth of Parry Sound Harbour. Bob was landing at Georgian Bay
municipal and
yes he is still flying his amphibs without problem and cycling his
gear to
boot without issue!

With all the meandering on the way home, and a loop around town when
we got
here, we were still only 1hr - 45 minutes as we came home at about 95
knots.
