Hi to all:
I recently attached my SR rudder cables (cut to length) to the rudder
horn using a thimble but forgot to include a cable bushing (AN111-4).
Questions:
1. Any opinions on how important/critical it is to use the bushing,vs.
just the 1/4" bolt thru a thimble?
2. To add the bushing, I would have to remove the nico sleeve. Anybody
know of a way to do this without damaging the cable?, or will I have to
install a new cable?
3. The MAM manual for my SR says to mount the tail wheel spring in the
second set of holes from the top on the mounting brackets. I noticed in
a photo of Al's where he mounted it in the 2nd hole from the bottom.
The difference looks like it changes the ground clearance by an inch or
so.
What are the rest of you doing or have done?

Tom, I used the bushing without the thimble as stated in the old manual and
the radius is so tight that some of the strands separated. I cut my nico
sleeves off with a wiz wheel (very carefully!) but ended up ruining one of them.

I have taken them off carefully before, and screwed some up doing it.
You can always splice the cable.
Most tail brackets I have seen have been in the lowest or close to it hole
to get the tail wheel angle correct. I know of one that used the upper
holes and then bent the stinger to get the right angle on the tail wheel.

Oil impregnated Bronze sleeve bushings that will just slip into the
assembled cable/thimble, so I won't have to disassemble anything.

Full fuel, 3 or 4 people baggage the tail spring will have well over 300 lbs
on when your on the ground. I find the second hole up works fine no shimmy
or wobble.

SR cable & tail wheel attachment
I have a bend in my tailspring to get the zero-degree angle. So far,
knock on wood, no problems with the bend.
I had a Maule before the Moose. My (Scott) tailwheel on the Maule used
to shimmy all the time--slow, fast--didn't matter what type of landing.
No shimmy at all in the Moose tailwheel.
