My second question -- then I'll be quiet for a while: regards the wet wings.
I am considering sandwiching the tank skins under the wing skins instead of
trimming off a large chunk of wing skin, as per the directions.
My calculations indicate a total weight penalty of about 5 lbs. It would
eliminate the cut edge of the wing skin facing the airflow and seem, to me,
to make a stronger tank.
Again, has anyone tried this and is it a BAD idea?

Wet wing question
BAD idea...IMHO. There was a guy on the list by the name of Bryan I believe.
Him and his dad chased leaks for ever between the wing skin and tank skin.
I'm sure you could make it leak proof but would be lots of extra prosealing
to be sure you didn't have rivets that leached thru and out between the
skins.
Another suggestion for you would be to pretty much ignore that new manual
you sprang for! It is only going to confuse you doing the tanks with a kit
from '94...unless you also cut yourself some new larger tank skins from .040
to allow you to build it per the new manual.

I can't respond to the Rebel specific question, but about the 5 lbs. Save
every little bit of weight now because later those little increases can
affect your performance. My airplane has gained 100 lbs. a few pounds at a
time.
