"tunda" tire leaves a pretty open slate Neil! You looking for something that
just lives better on a grass strip like a set of the cheap Dico 8 x 6's or
something for serious off roading! The best I've seen yet is a guy making
experimental 10" wheels to take a lightened version of Bushwheels new 35" x
15 x 10 tire for the Beaver.

Joe Junker in Alaska has some pretty big wheels on his Rebel.
Looks like it would probably float if he ever ditched it!

Thanks for the tips and pics Wayne and Walter. I think that the more
reasonable 8 x6's sound good to me since I would prefer my plane to have
tires rather than my tires to have wings!
Where can I get the Dico 8x6's?? O'Shea's Irish Field Aviation???
Thanks again

Tundra Tires
Are you not already running them on yours Neil? Or are you on straight
groved 6.00 x 6's like me? Are your's worn out already..I'm still on my
originals from 1995..albeit 90% of my landings are on the grass so they
don't wear too quick. The DICO turfs are the same as the McCreary turfs in
8.00 x 6's with a wavy pattern that is nice on grass..but wears quick on
pavement. I do have a set here but will have to investigate what they are
worth before I say they're available.
Cheers,
Wayne

Tundra Tires
Hi Neil !
Sorry for the delay - life gets in the way sometimes !
You can order the Dico 800 x 6's from Murphy - be sure to get the
tubes, too, as you need tubes with a special angled valve stem. I have
heard rumours that these <might> be available through WallMart, as
"Golf Cart Tires" ....... ;-) :-) Carlyle is another brand
name for the same tires.
Because of the difficulty finding tubes, I always order a spare, to
have in the Rebel on trips ! Saves lots of grief sometimes !!
I think you're on the right track - anything much bigger can make
landings interesting. You're OK, because you have the standard gear,
with the die springs - the factory spring gear really suffers if you add
large diameter tires....
If you wander up to the north end, you can see the DICO's on
my Rebel. Expect to replace them about every second year -
they wear quickly on pavement, but give a nice ride ! I need a new
one on the right - tread is worn.... (staggered years for replacement).
I really like them for the better cushioning effect.

"tunda" tire leaves a pretty open slate Neil! You looking for
something that just lives better on a grass strip like a set of the
cheap Dico 8 x 6's or something for serious off roading! The best I've
seen yet is a guy making experimental 10" wheels to take a lightened
version of Bushwheels new 35" x 15 x 10 tire for the Beaver.

Tundra Tires
Hi again Wayne, yes I am still on the grooved 6.00 x 6's. They are not
worn but I will most likely be doing more turf landings soon and would
like a more suitable tire - I need all the help I can get!!
Let me know about the DICO's. I am planning to attend the meeting next
Sunday maybe you could bring them with you if you are able to get there.
Thanks
Neil

Are you not already running them on yours Neil? Or are you on straight
groved 6.00 x 6's like me? Are your's worn out already..I'm still on my
originals from 1995..albeit 90% of my landings are on the grass so they
don't wear too quick. The DICO turfs are the same as the McCreary turfs
in 8.00 x 6's with a wavy pattern that is nice on grass..but wears quick
on pavement. I do have a set here but will have to investigate what they
are worth before I say they're available. Cheers, Wayne

Thanks for the tips and pics Wayne and Walter. I think that the more
reasonable 8 x6's sound good to me since I would prefer my plane to
have tires rather than my tires to have wings!
Where can I get the Dico 8x6's?? O'Shea's Irish Field Aviation???
Thanks again
Neil Hardie

Tundra Tires
Like I said Neil..I fly on the 6.00 x 6's off my own grass field and they do
the trick running about 20/22 psi. Why change from what you have to go to
the 8.00 x 6? They are only about 1 " bigger in overall diameter.....but are
somewhat a wider stance which makes them harder fitting to my hydraulic
wheel skis when you buy a set of those! )
