Post by Skytrucks » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:58 am

Happy New Year Everybody;
Could someone advise me on the need for fire sleeve firewall forward
on my M14P powered Moose. I am using the steel braid coated AQP hose, It is
rated for 300 degrees F.
Thanks,

fire sleeve?

Post by Scott Aldrich » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:58 am

Hi Larry, we used the same steel braid hose and put fire sleeve over all the
lines with fuel, including the primer lines. We didn't do the oil lines.
Others have only done the main fuel lines and not the primer. I know there
are a some on the list here with sleeve on all hoses.

A lot of the Pitts 12's I have seen have no fire sleeve at all.

FWIW,
Scott

Don Boardman

fire sleeve?

Post by Don Boardman » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:58 am

Hi Larry,

Randy and I decided that we would do all the hoses that contained stuff that
could burn ... therefore we fire sleeved all our fuel and oil lines. That
covers all but the vent lines. You still get the nice look of the SS braid
up front on the case vent hose. In some respects having the fire sleeve on
gives the hoses a softer feel when your hands are mixing it up in the area
behind the engine.

A side note, we liked the look much better without all the writing on the
hoses. With a bit of elbow grease lacquer thinner removed the printing. We
have also elected to safety wire the ends instead of using the aeroquip
clamps which seem a bit pricey.

I have seen the range from all or nothing covered ... your call in the end.
