Hi Warren---
Seem to recall from a question about stick heights long ago you mentioned
you were going to use a yoke system you got from Wayne, I believe. I am
considering going with a yoke as well just to avoid the knee limited aileron
throw issues. Did you incorporate a yoke in your Moose (or anyone else for
that matter)? ... I like the yokes in Beavers and although I have not flown
one, believe the old Barons had a throw over style yoke too. Just wanted to
know how that was working out for you...

from an old Beaver yoke chopped a bit shorter and mounted to the control

Moose yoke?
My buddy Rob Merdes spent a great deal of time attempting to install a yoke
system on his Moose and finally gave up in exasperation. He was a very
talented builder and innovator so I must assume that many aspects of the
Moose design just don't lend themselves well to the change. I remember him
mentioning the rudder pedals getting in the way. I know he had the torque
tube under the floor and was attempting to use it and go from there and that
didn't go well either. The last I saw he had some welded up parts in the
"oh, forget it" bin, two holes in the instrument panel for the yoke tubes,
and two standard Moose control sticks where they are supposed to go. I wish
he had succeeded because I would have liked yokes too.

Moose yoke?
Hi Wes,
I have a Y setup out of a 100-180 that I got from Wayne. I haven't yet
installed but my plan is to initally install delrin bearings for the MAM
torque bar etc so it can be retrofitted back to sticks. Will then remove
torque bar and install extended elevator push/pull tube to bottom of Y.
I think I can site the extended elevator holes but if not will have to
figure out how to bend via levers. Aleron cables to run back throuh the
centre tunnel with an AP servo motor in there somewhere. Only conflict
may be rudder cross tubers so will have to plan accordingly. Purchased
ACS rams horn yokes from AS&S. Will configure with PTT and AP
instinctive disconnect. I'm really hoping It'll work as I have no disire
to fly with a stick in my left hand having flown jets and helos with a
right stick.

Just a thought , why not add a second throttle control
on the left side of the panel and leave the two sticks
in place as designed? I've seen other manufacturers
kits that use a center Y stick and two throttle
controls on both the far left and right sides of their
panels. I believe these are connected behind the panel
to a single cable running up to the carb. ( can't tell
you just how thats done, but don't think it would be
to difficult). Anyways, just something to consider.

Hi Doug,
The 'Y' is located behind the panel, ala Cessena 'T' setup. However, the
100-180 'Y' used push/pull rods for aileron actuation instead of a
bicycle chain.
This provides redundancy as the bicycle chain is a single point of
failure and the rods are independent from left/right control wheels.
I also got a Piper thrust lever quadrant as I prefer this setup over the
push/pull vernier type. If it all works then this setup will then be the
same as my day job.
If unachievable then the dual throttle would be an option as I flew that
combination in the Tutor. Be intersting selecting flaps and knobs with
the left hand though!!
Time consuming but I enjoy the satisfaction of conquering the path of
greatest resistance.

Excuse me for jumping in here, Paul Erikson and I discussed using yokes last night similar to the Cessna 185 setup. He has made some similar setups on the throttle quadrants too. I don't have the web site here but you want to do a search using his name and Moose and should show some pictures of the Moose. If you would like to compare notes I have his number but you can find it on the web site. He's put Alaska doors on the one that is finished and float doors on teh pilot/copilot doors. Paul is in the Anchorage area.

They've put a nice aircraft together. I didn't think the M14 used

Excuse me for jumping in here, Paul Erikson and I discussed using yokes
last night similar to the Cessna 185 setup. He has made some similar
setups on the throttle quadrants too. I don't have the web site here but
you want to do a search using his name and Moose and should show some
pictures of the Moose. If you would like to compare notes I have his
number but you can find it on the web site. He's put Alaska doors on the
one that is finished and float doors on the pilot/copilot doors. Paul is
in the Anchorage area.
