with the old tailwheel installation is the single bolt at the forward end of
the tail spring. The holes in the mounting brackets have elongated so the
tailwheel has side to side slop. I reinforced the mounting by adding a
second bolt to the tail spring thru gussets on each side of the tail spring
and two more bolts in the mounting brackets also the gussets pick up the
original tail spring bolt. There is a spacer in the upper bolt to space out
the mounting brackets. One gusset is between the tail spring and the bracket
the other gusset is on the outside of the bracket. In the original
installation, the tail spring was mounted to the lower hole in the mounting
brackets since the tail spring now has more bend in it (from use) I moved
the mounting up one hole. As soon as it stops raining for a hour or two I
plan to check it out.

Al,
Thanks for uploading the pictures. While it is always hard to tell
details from pictures, at first glance it appears as the only difference
(between std & elite) is the actual fork assembly (and wheel of course).
It looks as if the bracket assembly is essentially the same.
Another question I have is, with the new vs std, what would you consider
the weak point of each to be?
Is the Elite version compatible with a U.S. tire/tube, or is one still
importing an odd Chinese (other?) make/model?
Have you taxi or landed much on the Elite wheel yet? I'm curious about
your impressions regarding steerability, shimmy, side-to-side play, et
cetera.
Thanks,
Ted

Subject: Moose tail wheel
I uploaded a couple of pictures of the Elite nose wheel mounted as a
tailwheel and a side by side with the old tail wheel. The next step is
to change the mounting of the forward end of the stinger. My plan is to
gusset the stinger to the bracket, picking up two more holes in the
brackets and drill an additional hole in the stinger. If anyone has any
thoughts on the mounting I am interested in other views. I'm dragging my
heels to get on with it because I hate to cut holes in the side of a
good tailcone to get at the bolt. Al Moose, N526AP
