Rivet head bur

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:35 am

Jean, the only bad rivets..to my knowledge..where a batch of 1/8" RV1410's
that MAM bought from Rivets Unlimited.... instead of Mattic that they
originally used and now use again. Might have been some RV1414's as
well...but you only get a handful of those with a kit anyhow. Anything else
you have from Murphy should be fine. I don't know who's brand you bought at
Sun n Fun so can't comment on those.

To machine the head nose, do you just use a drill? A 132' or a 118'....
We may do it with the 3/16'' rivet to.... About the "bad" batch of
rivet... with my kit I have receive many type of rivets.... 1/8 and 3/16.
When I make a "bad hole" I had to go for a 3/16 which is big... Las t
yeay
at the Sun'Fun, I have buy some 5/32"(that I have not use yet... may be
my
"technic" is better) but they have the "gold" mandrel. Could I use them
any
way ? Is there oversize compare to a 1/8' will compensate for the ?
quality..

Even easier might be to try putting a few drops of oil into the air line
first. If I forget to do this every thousand rivets or so my puller gets
stiff and doesn't retract (go forward?) all the way...

further forward when the gun retracts and opens the puller jaws a bit

Rivet head bur

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:35 am

All you can do then is use them Jean and see how the mandrel breaks off. The
bad ones from MAM where structurally okay...just the mandrel broke off above
surface and you had file/grind them flush for an absolute pain in the @$$ !
