Moose V-brace

Post by Ted Waltman » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:31 am

Brent (and others),

I heard at Oshkosh that MAM has a newer, stiffer (thicker) v-brace; that
some folks flying had cracks develop on one side or the other at the top
attach points. I don't have any specific information (e.g. who had
cracks or when), but, perhaps a phone call to MAM to insure you have the
newer version might be in order.

Gentlemen:

Simple question. I was installing the V brace required for the Moose
and
the bolt lengths are obviously too long. The only way to make them work
is
to use multiple washers.

Any reason why I cannot substitute shorter bolts and not use the washers
in
this and other areas where this happens? I hate deviating from the
manual
since I am an obviously inexperienced builder.

Thanks.

Moose V-brace

I do recall hearing of a problem with it breaking where the top tab was
welded on, and a gusset here being recommended... first I've heard of MAM
making a change though.

Moose V-brace

I just contacted Brian at MAM. He stated that the latest V-braces have 0.090
tabs.

Moose V-brace

While at Oshkosh, I was told (I think it was by Ryan Mowat) that we could call MAM to request a new v-brace and they would send one out--at what cost is the question of course...free?
