SR/Moose wings wanted/ordering options

Post by Al Paxhia » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:31 am

The only thing I would do differently is have the second set of fillers
(with necks) in the 1st bay if your on floats. More times than I hate to
admit I have been at eye level to the top of the wing putting in fuel. I
have stood on upside down trash cans (several times) and chairs on docks to
reach the fuel filler.
At the airport on amphibs an 8' ladder works best and a 6' is ok, anything
else gets you an eyefull when your under 6 feet tall. I plan on adding the
inboard fillers and steps, with the inboard fillers and a step on the side
of the fuselage by the upper motor mount I can get fueled without a ladder.

Mike - Can you tell me what thickness and the shape of the longer skins -
When I bought the stuff the it seems like it was an upgrade from 60 to the
80 (I got the 80) and the next option was 120 - I mentioned earlier that I
called Brian when I was thinking about extending out from 4 to 5 bays and he
said I was all set.

I deleted my wing tips when I ordered and they credited me the cost... this
way I can use what ever tips I want when the time comes. I have the 120
gallon tanks, but will probably only go with 100 gal because of the way the
strut attach point must be boxed in... the larger tanks do get a longer
heavier tank skin, so don't order 80 gal if you intend on putting in 100
gal.

Hello everyone, I am getting ready to order the wings for my moose. I just
thought I would check and see if anyone knew of a set for sale anywhere. I
also
wanted to ask about what options everyone thinks I should get. I think
someone
said if you order them without tips you get a discount that can be put
toword
better tips. 120 gal tanks?(says 100 on the web page but I think that's
wrong)? It seems like more is better but then you end up always flying
heavier and
have more unusable fuel. I looked at the fast build option but I have
found at
least two places that will do the work for close to the same price and I
prefer to give my money to a small business that I know rather than murphy
sending
it overseas. I am going to try and complete them myself anyway.....

SR/Moose wings wanted/ordering options

Post by Warren & Marg Montgomery » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:31 am

I went with six bays when I did the 3500 upgrade. Made new skins up out
of .040 as holes were different then the new factory skin and used old
skins for template. (also cheaper) went with a wet strut bay and didn't
build a dam. Also an access hole in each bay including an extra one on
the seventh. Figured that I could still access strut okay after draining
tank and using standard fuel inspection hole. Used lots of PRC on
strapping and strut area. Also installed 1/2" pipe to vent to outter
bay. Keeps a ballon inflated for three days. Gave up trying to find pin
hole............

Mike - Broke open my shipping crate and figuring out the wing skins - You were
right - I have ordered the 040 from the local metal supermarket - $180 for top
and bottom, right and left (5 bays worth)- The bottoms make sense - who wants
the flimsy stuff holding your gas up - but the tops might not make any
difference but I went ahead anyway -

Stupid question - why are the fuel inspection ports on the wing bottoms rather
than the tops?

When you start sealing up your tanks you put the bottom skins on first and
do all the proseal dam work with the top skin off... very easy to get to
everything to do a really good job. Then you put the top skins on and have
to do the dam work through the access holes in the bottom. I guess the
thought here is getting the bottoms sealed perfectly is more important than
the top since the top won't have the weight of the fuel trying to push out
any pin holes.

When I ordered my kit I had them add extra doublers and covers to put an
access hole in every bay... I figured it would make the initial job much
easier, much less any repairs necessary should there be a leak.
