Gentlemen

Just started the fuselage assembling and have a (simple) doubt.

Page 6 of instructions reads: "Bolt two MS24563B pulleys between brackets with
AN-14A bolt....."

I searched 3 times the shipping list for the above pulleys and did not find
anything with that code. The "nearest" code refer to cotter pins!!

The only reference to pulleys in the shipping list is in the "CONTROLS" area,
page 13, listed as BB-128 pulleys.

Are the BB-128 pulleys the required ones to be assembled in the
fuselage/bulkhead "D"??

Hi Jose

I have an Elite which may be different, but I seem to remember that in mine
I used 2x BB-128
towards the rear end of the fuselage side by side on the floor if that is
where you are putting yours. You will also need 2 more to go at the top edge
of the rear bulkhead if the rebel is the same as the Elite.

This solves my immediate problem.

As I have ONLY two BB-128 pulleys in my shipping list , I have to wait and
see if the Rebel has a similar configuration as the Elite.

Jose,

I'm building Rebel #678. When I started building the fuselage I ran into the
same issue. Before proceeding, I contacted Brian at MAM Tech and was told the
BB-128 pulleys were the current issue for the elevator cables. As it turns
out MAM subsequently reversed that and went back to using the 2" MS24566-3B
pulley.

The following excerpt is an email I subsequently sent to Brian, followed by
his reply. Hope all this helps.

By the way, the Rebel control system is designed to use these two pulleys
only, and uses cable guides for the rest of the system. However many
builder's have installed additional pulleys as they feel necessary.

I have a question about the rearmost elevator cable pulleys. My manual and
the manual on CD call out for elevator pulley brackets (FUS-254 L&R) to be
drilled to the specific measurements given. I did that.

These manuals also call out for two MS24566-3B (2" diameter) pulleys to be
used. However, Murphy Aircraft supplied BB-128 (2 1/2" diameter) pulleys in
my kit. I asked you about this a long time ago and you indicated the BB-128's
were now replacing the others. OK.

Now that I am rigging the cables, I'm finding the BB-128 pulleys when
installed in the bracket are just ever so slightly touching the inner floor
of the tailcone. The pulleys will rotate with a slight rubbing noise against
the structure. With the cables installed in the pulleys there is
approximately 1/16th inch clearance between the cables as the enter the
pulley and the inner floor panel. I find this lack of cable to structure
clearance unacceptable.

My question is, will it be acceptable to use two smaller diameter MS24566-3B
pulleys, as originally called for, instead of the BB-128's? The only
restrictions I can find on the MS24566-3B pulleys is that they are not to be
used to bend the cable more than 15 degrees from a straight line. It may be
that the cable to the top of the elevator mixer arm is deflected by these
pulleys more than that?

Hi Roger,
I changed the shiplists a while back to the MS 2" outer diameter pulleys on
the Rebel and Maverick because of this problem. Elaine can send you two of
the MS pulleys no charge if you don't have them locally.
Somebody here mixed up groove diameter and outer diameter!

I've built two Rebels, on the first one I looked at the cable guides and (
thought there would be to much friction ). So I took the time to build pullys
to replace them. A complete waist of time... The second Rebel I just instaled
the stock cable guides, It actualy works better.

I have to agree with you Phil. Definitely a less friction, smoother elevator
feel when run just through the nylon guides...unfortunately the inspectors
have wised up to this many moons ago up here and will not pass an airplane
for a flight certificate without at least 5 pulleys in Canada and you have
to be sure to get your rudder pedal ends right over so they are almost
dragging through the side panels or they will nail you for a pulley on each
side at the door post/carry thru for a total of 7!

I received 2 BB-128 pulleys , NOT the MS24566-3B (which were listed in my
shipping list!!).
