Update on Moose electrical problem

Post by Ted Waltman » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:23 am

I sent in my Jasco alternator & regulator to Skytronics for them to
evaluate and/or overhaul. Skytronics called me today to indicate that
my Jasco voltage regulator (24V system) was bad...it was providing
erratic output. This would account for me seeing amperage vary from -3
to 8 amps.

This is the second time this particular regulator will have been
overhauled by Skytronics. The only reason Skytronics could offer for
why this voltage regulator has now failed twice (in less than 120 hrs
total flight time) is a) bad luck, b) just one of those things, c)
perhaps a faulty battery, d) perhaps faulty wiring between the battery &
regulator.

Does anyone know of another brand of alternator / regulator for a 24V
system?

You might give the guys at Aeroelectric a call. THis seems to be the kind of problem that they live to resolve! I have their "manual" and it has lots of good information about regulation as well as other areas of the electrical design.
