Four Door Cowl

Post by Mike Kimball » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:23 am

Great looking cowl and paint job Bob! I wonder if you could open the doors
one of these days and take more pictures showing more of how the cowl goes
together? I want to build a similar cowl for my Super Rebel. Anybody know
of an off-the-shelf nose bowl that would work well for a Super Rebel? I
figure that you fix the nose bowl in place somehow, then build the fixed
cowl structure up between the firewall and the nosebowl, then build the cowl
doors. Sound about right?

Bobby, go to the bottom of any list message (this one)and click on the link
to the archives (the other link it to the subscribe page).

It may ask if you want the certificate on your computer. Click YES.

Then you will get the logon pop up. For username enter rebel, password
enter builder.

Then on Mikes sits click on FILES and then on New and it will show the most
recent pictures. Or follow the info and look up whatever you want. You can
also look at old email under the MAIL menu.

Hi Mike !

The Rebel manual has instructions for building this style - there are
2" or 3" channels on the top, left, and right to support the nose bowl &
hinges for the doors, and 2 channels at the bottom, to surround the air box.
Will try to take some "open" pictures soon ....

Four Door Cowl

Post by rognal » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:23 am

Mike,

I'm currently building the four door cowl for Rebel #687 around a Continental
IO-240B. I'm using an Aircraft Spruce MC-3B nose bowl. There are no
instructions whatsoever in the Rebel builder's manual for constructing the
cowling. However, I emailed Brian at Murphy Tech asking if any were
available. He sent me a neatly packaged file folder with all the
documentation. I don't have any way to scan it to digital format, but I'm
sure if you called Brian he'd send you what you need.

One note though-Murphy's instructions are actually for a two door cowling.
But with Wayne's instructions (posted here previously) it is an easy
modification to the four door cowl.

My cowl is not completed yet and I intended to eventually post some photo's
showing the construction. If it would help any, I can post what I have to
date.

Thanks Roger. I'll send an email to Brian. I only wish the archives hadn't
been lost so I could search for Wayne's instructions to modify the cowl for
four doors. Oh well. I'm sure I'll figure it out with the head start of
using Brian's package. The first thing I need to do is identify a nose bowl
to start with since mine is a Super Rebel.

Please do Ken... and just to reassure everyone, since the crash last May I
have been doing complete backups of the system regularly. I never used to
backup the file libraries because they were so large, and well, I'd never
lost anything in 7 years... live and learn. Even though it takes a little
more time, I won't make that mistake again.

For Mike K. Here are a few messages where Bobp and Wayne have talked about
their 4 door cowls.
