I just got my new insurance quote from Marsh and it is a 1000 bucks higher
than last year for hull insurance. Has anybody experienced the same thing? My
quote is now 3850.00 per year. I see that marsh is now using lloyds instead
of Co-operators. Is anybody getting better quotes elsewhere?

My thoughts as well. Unless you have a really low value on your Hull Ray you
are getting a deal ! Even 3 years ago low time pilots on amphibs where
getting hit with 5% to 6% for inflight coverage plus the liabilty policy
rates on top. Figure it can only be worse by now as is show by Bruce's #'s.

Hi Ray !
Exactly what are you covering ?? This sounds high for a Rebel ..
We've ALWAYS got better coverage at a better price from Bill Cameron,
at Rhodes & Williams - (905) 457-5238. He covers most of the Rebels in
Ontario....
One interesting thing about the aircraft insurance business in Canada :
IF a company has quoted for your aircraft through one broker, it will NOT
quote again on the same aircraft through ANOTHER broker - so you should
choose your broker carefully ! (There's not a big choice of companies in
Canada - last I heard, only TWO companies were writing aviation coverage !)
Let us know how you make out !

Ray, I remember talking to you before about your insurance and I always thought it was surprisingly cheap for an amphib. I assume it is because of your experience and safety record. Also, of course, it depends on your declared value. So now it sounds like you are just getting a little closer to what the rest of us are paying. (I think Bob P was thinking of a wheels Rebel.)
In my case, I just renewed mine (Rebel amphib) for July 1, and it went up to 1100, which is an increase of $64 over last year. But that is only for 3 months. I actually expected mine to go down with all the hours since last year, but I guess that was just wishful thinking. For the year, it would be over 4000. This is in Canuck dollars, of course. My risk management theory here is that for 9 months of the year, I fly close to home, and my greatest risk is in the summer months when I am away touring and exploring new territory. I should mention, though, that the insurance companies only want you to add coverage, not give refunds, so you need to plan your expiry date accordingly (mine is Oct 1).

Cheer up Ray, the best quote I had for my Rebel amphib (with only 20 hours of
dual time on amphibs) was $4,900 US. That was 6 months on floats with a value
of only $65,000. That is over $200 a week! I already had 268 hours of
retractable gear time but the insurance company didn't seem to think that was the
same as Amphib time.
I figured if I was going to destroy it would be the first year, but I'll not
pay that twice. If the price doesn't drop significantly the second year with
over 100 hours of time I'll drop the haul and go with liability only which was
only $785.
