Don, What about these Dzus cowl latches. There is no picture on their
website but they are on page 186 of the current AS&S catalog. You would
have to make the recess yourself but they are only about $2.50 each.

Subject: Moosem-14 Cowl Latch
Hi Guys,
The side doors for the Moose M-14 cowl are in the warm up box. We are
looking hard at the Piper type flush draw latch.
Wag-Aero # M-738-000 page 41 only problem is they are $104 EACH and we would
need four.
Now I know that this Moose is a significant investment but $416 for 4 cowl
latches seem unreasonable.
What are/have guys used to close/draw down Moose like cowl doors?
Thanks,
Don B.

Moosem-14 Cowl Latch
The ones from ASS for the Stinson appear to be exactly the same thing as
on a Piper Comanche and those parts add up to about $74. ea. I used
piper latches from e-bay and the receptacles and cups from ASS for my
top doors. I used the piano hinges on my smaller bottom doors and they
worked better than I expected.
I would probably not use the latches if I did this again on a Rebel. It
was a lot of work compared to piano hinges or Camlocs and a bit more
weight when you add up the extra re-inforcing required.
I have also been told that reasonable cost latches for the older Grumman
Traveller model may be available again. I like those more than the
Piper/Stinson ones.

Moosem-14 Cowl Latch
Hi Don !
Haven't used them on a Moose, but my advice would be to save
your money ! On the Super Cub, these latches look great - for a
year or 2 - then they wear & loosen up, and become a pain !! We
end up replacing the latches, and sometimes patching the metal
around them too ...
What did Robin end up with on the factory Moose ?? Maybe
twist-lock fasteners would work .. (NOT Dzus fasteners - they
wear & loosen & fall out at unhandy moments !). The good old
piano hinge fastener seems to work best & longest ...
