Cable swaging

Post by Ralph Baker » Sat Feb 18, 2012 12:07 am

Can anyone recommend a shop to swage some control cable terminals for
rudder, elevator, and shoulder harness attaches? This would be for the
tubular terminals swaged onto the cable, not NICO sleeves.
Thanks,
Ralph Baker

Hello Ralph:
I have needed cable swaging in the past and used Aircraft Spruce. My 2003/2004
Spruce catalog shows how to order on page 132. Go to the bottom of the page.
If you don't have a catalog, I will be happy to scan and send the page to you
(lemme know).

Have fun! Get her flying!

I've heard that Aircraft Spruce and specialty can do it. Not sure if you
need to buy the cable and terminals from them before they offer the service
though. It might be worth giving them a call..
Good Luck!

Hey Ralph,

I waited until I saw others answer, but I never did see mention of any
sail-boat sales or repair. But the do mostly Nico-press, in many
sizes.

And same to you for the Season.

Take care.

cable swaging

Post by Ralph Baker » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:12 am

Does anyone know a source for swaging of the barrel type cable
terminals? These are the ones where the cable fits up inside a hole in
the terminal and is roll swaged in place. I have not yet tried the
marine rigging shops as I would prefer an aviation shop to do it, the
marine avenue is a last resort. Only 1/8" cable is involved and only
the two connections at the rudder pedals. The idea is less to snag my
feet on.
Thanks,
Ralph Baker

Just a note to remind those using stainless steel control cables that
nickel plated NicoPress sleeves are required for corrosion protection.
The copper sleeves are fine for galvanized cable.
