Primer Fittings

Yes Clay, they are just soldered on. No different than plumbing a house with
copper pipe!

Thanks Wayne, before ordering the proper fittings from ACS (too bad you
don't have any) I'll try the compression fittings as you suggested. Tell
me
... are those AN cones soldered to the tubing before tightened into place?
Would they solder OK to the copper tubing?

Thanks
Clay

Clay, had a look through my stuff and unfortunately don't have any
AN800/805-2's! 100's of -3's but no -2's :o( !

I had a really close look at the old spray primer nozzles and their tube
seating area and a matching nut versus a new $1.99 CTC brass compression
tube to npt nipple and the sealing surfaces (and mating thread) are
close
enough that if you bought a pack of sleeves and nuts (or any fitting
assembly to steal same from) pretty sure they would do the trick for you
and
hold everything tightly and leak free.

Cheers,
Wayne

Clay, if you have the original spray style nozzles you most likely
need
the
cone and matching nut since the sealing surface shape is not the same
as
a
compression fittings face. You can just use an 1/8" NPT compression
nipple
for the primers, but if you already have the proper spray style (with
the
little tube coming out of them) all the better and you should match up
the
connection properly.

Pretty sure I have a box of the AN800's but not sure about the nuts.
Will
have a look shortly and let you know.

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to hook-up my 1/8 copper line to the discharge nipples on my
0320. I believe I need a 5/16-32 thread nut and sleeve to go with these
nipples. Should I order the solder-on type fittings ( AN800 union cone,
AN805-2 union nut)? Any problem soldering the copper tubing to this
union
cone? Is there a compression fitting available for that nipple?

Thanks again,
Clay

Wayne G. O'Shea

Primer Fittings

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:05 am

It's the way they've been done for a 100 years! Do you have any other way to
put an AN800 end sleeve onto a copper tube? They're not flare fittings and
the only option is to push the tube into the AN800 end and solder in place.
In reality compression fittings aren't to be used on an airplane, but we
sneak the odd one in here and there!

Besides I can't see the fire getting that severe to cause the solder to come
loose/melt and also consider the fact that this fitting is screwed into the
fire source that makes the engine run and the primer lines don't catch
fire/melt. IF the fire is really that hot, a primer line coming loose is
your least worry!

Cheers,
Wayne
