Hello Rebelers/Eliters:
Before I drill any holes, I would like to confirm the correct layering of
the Rebel Spring Gear SG-13, SG-7, Packers etc. (I am not sure if the Elite
is the same here).
My question is: Do the outboard ends of SG-7 and SG-13 (.063) Plates lay on
TOP of FUS-35, BUTT up to FUS-35 or slip UNDER Fus-35?
There was also a previous post that mentioned to add an extra .032 packer
(not shown in the manual) that spans the fuselage the similar to SG-7,
butting to both FUS-35's to bring this local area level to FUS-35's.
It is obvious that the pad area where the saddles are bolted needs to be
relatively flat.
What has everyone done in this area?

help dated sometime early 2003. It consist of short pieces of 2 inch angle
riveted to the square carry through tubes on each end where the saddles bolt
through. Shipped with all new spring gear kits.
Bruce
the bottom plates, flip the plane upright and then do the inside plates.
Once I get all of the inside floor material stacked, I will definitely
install the angles.

You might want to consider increasing the bolt sizes. They have been the
subject of some failures. The inner one increasing to 1/2" diameter and the
outer 2 bolts to 3/8" diameter. I was easily able to redrill the inner one but
have kept the outer ones at 5/16" because I had already installed the bolts and
they would be difficult to get out and replace them.

Interesting you should mention increasing the bolt size on the spring gear.
The original spring gear in 94 came with all 3/8 bolts and not the 5/16 MAM
uses now. I believe they switched because drilling the 3/8 holes in the carry
thru tubes exceeded edge tolerance on the tubes. There was no room for builder
error. I still have the original spring gear manual showing the 3/8 bolts.

Dear Terry,
I looked at my Elite manual, but the part numbers are different, and I
suppose the Rebel must be a bit different.. From the bottom up, I have the
FUS-428 and FUS-430 floor doublers, then the big FUS-5 carry throughs, then
FUS-429 and FUS-431 doublers. These fit nicely around the vertical uprights
and gussets, and the thick reinforcing angle sits forward. (The spring gear
reinforcement bulletin on the MAM website does mix up the floor doubler part
numbers.)
Somewhere in the midst of this work I do remember wishing that I had ordered
a Rebel with the conventional gear!
