KLX 135 - Bendix King Error Code 009

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 8:55 am

Looking for someone with radio knowledge on the Bendix King KLX135.

Got my overhauled starter back on today, taking advantage of a warmer sunny
day and went out to play for about an hour in the deep powder snow. However
when I turned on the radio, it went through it's usual confirmation pages of
data base/position etc. Then shows frequency it's on/ standby freq. etc and
that it is establishing track etc, just like normal. Then about 10 seconds
later the screen changes to read

KLX 135 System Error
Error Code 009

This unit has worked flawless for almost 9 years, with only the occasional
time of losing it's track and having to be reset. Hoping that someone on the
list knows what this error code is.... as Bendix King will only help dealers
for their product with maint manuals etc.

Could be something as simple as it decided to not accept the Nov 1994 data
base anymore and I have to get off my butt and obtain an update and use the
laptop to upload (I have the adapter cable). Maybe the antenna has died for
some reason, or the cable fell off in the fairing or what have you......or
it's telling me it's time to update to something new!?

The unit still transmits/receives on the channel it is set on, even with the
error code 009 on the screen, although of course I can't change the channel
other than right at start up if I am quick before the error message comes
up.

Thanks,
Wayne

Hi Wayne

I've a friend in avionics and I'll ask him when he gets back later this
week. He may not have the books for your model but he should know where to
ask.

KLX 135 - Bendix King Error Code 009

Post by Rebflyer » Sat Feb 18, 2012 8:55 am

Hi Wayne, I don't know much about the king but I just dealt with a couple of
Garmin updates. I found the old internalsoftware needed upgrade too! not only
two new data chips but two new internal chips that had to be installed by the
dealer. Garmin will only send them to a dealer. I had bought the new data
chips and it took a summer to find out how to fix the problem the new chip
created. My units would cycle through a normal cycle and then aquire, run for 15 min
and then blink and go back into the self test mode. This was after the new
chips went in. I would be surprised if a no change to anything would create your
problem, but I'll ask my local shop to see if they might have seen it. It
turned out the new data chips had so much more info the old operating software
chip had to be updated too.
Good luck, Curt N97MR
