Wayne:
I was talking to an AME last night and he suggest I mount the counter
weight on top of the flapperon and not below.
It would not be in the way and I wouldn't walk into it on a walk
around. What do you think Wayne?
Peter

Flapperon counter weight
Flapperon counter weight
I guess my fear would be where the weight ends up with the flaps down.
Mounted underneath you are guaranteed that you still have the weight ahead
of the hinge line. Mounted above there is a possiblity that the weight will
be dangerously close to crossing the hinge line during full flap/aileron
deflecton. (based on the shape you are after on ebay at least). Do some
playing and see what works out!
Also, do you ever plan to have to use wing covers??

Flapperon counter weight
Difference is the Elite only has the aileron movement to contend with and
even with that your spade is dropping below the wing tip. The Rebel with
flaperons has 18 to 23 degrees flaps and then the aileron travel on top of
this. IF you use a weight arm on the end of the outboard flaperon you will
have to have a slot in the wing tip for this weight to come up through and
protude when the flaps are down (and most likely even when they are not).
Gotta get back to the shop!

We are building an Elite so it will be a bit different but couldn't you do
something similar to the Elite and have a weighted spade or even a hidden
weight enclosed in the wing tip? You would reinforce the end of the Ail &
attach it there. It would get it out of the way so it wouldn't catch you
anyou walk by.
If you want I can scan the flap exploded assembly drawing so you can get
*-------------------------------------------------------------------------*idea about how it was done.
