electronic level

Post by Walter Klatt » Sat Feb 18, 2012 12:07 am

I have used a digital one that someone had brought over to check
something on my plane, and would highly recommend it for such
things as float angle of incidence and aileron measurements. I
think I may have to go out and get one myself one of these days.
Can't remember the brand, though.

Do or have any of you guys used an electronic level? I
am going to get one
and would like any input from any users. Thanks, Brad

Al Paxhia

electronic level

I recommend Smart Level. The one I have is a 8" or so and came with a 2'
beam, works well either way. As I recall it was about $120 US.

electronic level

Yep! After watching the guy on 'A plane is born' use the digital level, I had to have one. Not only is it extremely accurate, but you can set it down, on the members that you're leveling, and step away to jack and shim the plane. When level, the thing gives off a loud beep. Saves a lot of time doing the lift/check, lift/check routine. Great Christmas gift, fellas.

Lonnie Benson

electronic level

Post by Lonnie Benson » Sat Feb 18, 2012 12:07 am

I used my 4 ft. Smart Level a number of times while building my Rebel. The
first use was to level the work table. There have been a number of
improvements since I purchased mine. My brother-in-law has one with a built
in laser.

Ralph Baker

electronic level

Post by Ralph Baker » Sat Feb 18, 2012 12:07 am

This is a "must have". Get the short one and also a 4 foot bubble level
to use as a base for the electronic level when a greater span is
required.

rsdec1

electronic level

Post by rsdec1 » Sat Feb 18, 2012 12:07 am

Brad,
Before you accept the word of others that the electronic levels
are "extremely accurate", check out the specs for the level that you would
like to purchase. Many of the "smart" electronic levels are only accurate to
+/- .1* for a total overall of .2*. If you trig that out you will see how
that .2* works out to an error of .166" over 4 feet. Several people here have
used a machinists level clamped to a 4' level. There should be some info in
the archives. Also, don't forget the plain old string pulled tight to check
for straightness of your tabletop, wings, stabs and other long items.
Good luck, you'll need it,
Rick D.
