Hi everybody! Could someone put out some info about that Rebel owners =
meeting, please. bobp? Near what large Canadian city? Some driving =
instructions from the nearest commercial airport? What date(s)? Place to =
stay? No fair keeping all that good info from us poor Americanos! That =
STOL kit sounds good to me. Put me also on the "keep me posted" list, =
please. I don't care who knows it, I still can't slow my Rebel down =
enough to suit me(083R) and I am now flying out of my own strip 1300' =
and boy have those trees grown off the end. I put a set of inexpensive =
STOL items on a Cessna 180 many years ago, literally like "night and =
day", I could not believe the difference, so who knows. Curiously enough =
the aileron and flap gap seals also made far more difference than I had =
expected. Those Murphy supplied wheels and brakes (I got the first set) =
have been working very well for me, that is the ones they replaced those =
Macos with, they were indeed a joke. After that brake-pedal mod from =
our man in Montana, my airplane has ground handled absoluty great. =
Sorry, still on the conventional gear. However, I still have not been =
able to make a decent landing. I look like the ones you see all the time =
on those aircraft carrier movies and no my depth perception is fine! =
Thank you. I am extremely fearful to say how wonderful that Warp Drive =
3-bladed has been(on my Legacy) for fear it will fall off the moment I =

Interested to hear you say you have trouble slowing the rebel down =
enough for your liking. I know what you mean.
The only way I have found I can do a decent short landing is if the =
Rebel is pulled well behind the drag curve and carry quite a bit of =
power, it becomes very predictable then( especially when heavy). Pull =
the power and it drops like a stone. it took me quite a little while to =
get it sorted.
I also have done the brake mod ( I assume you are talking about =
relocating the lower ends of the brake cylinders) it makes a big =
difference! =20

We have been holding regular Rebel Builders Meetings for over 5 years,
now ! They are at the RAA clubhouse at the very north end of the Brampton
airport (NC3 - or maybe CNC3 now, or is it YNC3 ...) Anyway, Brampton
airport is the largest club-owned airport in North America - over 1,200
members own about 250 acres, with 2 runways, 3,500 ft. and ~2,800 ft,
paved, with lights, & VASI, but all UNICOM only (123.3). There are over
200 aircraft based here, including about a half-dozen Rebels.
Brampton airport is about 30 miles North-West of Toronto Pearson
International Airport. Just drive West on Derry Road to Highway #10,
then North about 15 miles to the village of Victoria, then left (West)
on King Road to McLaughlin Rd., then Left (South) about a mile to the
driveway. In the driveway, and up the gravel road on the left to the
North end of the field parking lot. You will be able to see the blue
hangars with orange roofs from Victoria (there are a LOT of them) !
There are lots of places to stay in Brampton - we have all the usual
hotels - Super 7 1/2, Worst Eastern, Holiday Out .... and many interesting
restaurants !
Anna & I supply free coffee, tea, soft drinks, spring water, donuts,
and lately, bagels & cream cheese. Bring a folding lawn chair, as seating
is sometimes scarce ! We never know - sometimes only 15 people come,
other times, there are 70 enthusiastic Rebel owners !! Often, there
are 2 or 3 fly-in Rebels sitting on the front lawn to admire & photograph.
With good weather, we hope Angus will fly in with his modified Rebel,
as well as a couple of the amphibs. With luck, you can see Brian Cross's
newly finished Rebel, with Dave Fife's Horner wing tips, and the original
tips, on Curt Martin's Rebel !!
We sometimes get visitors from Ottawa (5 hour drive), as well as
Michigan, Rochester, and Northern Ontario. Anna & I really would be glad
to see you folks from "down south" !!! Hope you can arrange to hitch a
ride on Delta, or better yet, fly up in the Rebel !! :-)
If you and Lonnie, and whoever else can make it, get here on Saturday,
we can try to arrange a little tour, or local Rebel flight, or ......
(general party :-) !!!)

We have been holding regular Rebel Builders Meetings for over 5 years,
now ! They are at the RAA clubhouse at the very north end of the Brampton
airport (NC3 - or maybe CNC3 now, or is it YNC3 ...) Anyway, Brampton
airport is the largest club-owned airport in North America - over 1,200
members own about 250 acres, with 2 runways, 3,500 ft. and ~2,800 ft,
paved, with lights, & VASI, but all UNICOM only (123.3). There are over
200 aircraft based here, including about a half-dozen Rebels.
Brampton airport is about 30 miles North-West of Toronto Pearson
International Airport. Just drive West on Derry Road to Highway #10,
then North about 15 miles to the village of Victoria, then left (West)
on King Road to McLaughlin Rd., then Left (South) about a mile to the
driveway. In the driveway, and up the gravel road on the left to the
North end of the field parking lot. You will be able to see the blue
hangars with orange roofs from Victoria (there are a LOT of them) !
There are lots of places to stay in Brampton - we have all the usual
hotels - Super 7 1/2, Worst Eastern, Holiday Out .... and many interesting
restaurants !
Anna & I supply free coffee, tea, soft drinks, spring water, donuts,
and lately, bagels & cream cheese. Bring a folding lawn chair, as seating
is sometimes scarce ! We never know - sometimes only 15 people come,
other times, there are 70 enthusiastic Rebel owners !! Often, there
are 2 or 3 fly-in Rebels sitting on the front lawn to admire & photograph.
With good weather, we hope Angus will fly in with his modified Rebel,
as well as a couple of the amphibs. With luck, you can see Brian Cross's
newly finished Rebel, with Dave Fife's Horner wing tips, and the original
tips, on Curt Martin's Rebel !!
We sometimes get visitors from Ottawa (5 hour drive), as well as
Michigan, Rochester, and Northern Ontario. Anna & I really would be glad
to see you folks from "down south" !!! Hope you can arrange to hitch a
ride on Delta, or better yet, fly up in the Rebel !! :-)
If you and Lonnie, and whoever else can make it, get here on Saturday,
we can try to arrange a little tour, or local Rebel flight, or ......
(general party :-) !!!)

also made far more difference than I had expected. Those Murphy supplied
wheels and brakes (I got the first set) have been working very well for me,
that is the ones they replaced those Macos with, they were indeed a joke.
After that brake-pedal mod from our man in Montana, my airplane has ground
handled absoluty great. Sorry, still on the conventional gear. However, I
still have not been able to make a decent landing. I look like the ones you
see all the time on those aircraft carrier movies and no my depth perception
is fine! Thank you. I am extremely fearful to say how wonderful that Warp
Drive 3-bladed has been(on my Legacy) for fear it will fall off the moment I

Luke and Becky, I too have a Legacy 2.2 (about to change to a 2.5). I did
NOT move the firewall back 3 inches. I have the battery and its box, with
the aft edge of box flush with furthest aft edge of floor. I guess as far
back as it can go. I have 100 hours on the machine and as per c.g.
calculations from day one, I came out perfect with my c.g. location
(probably more luck than wisdom!) and although I have the electric elevator
trim installed, I can just as easily remove it, I never use it! My new 2.5
liter Legacy will have its fuel return line going back into a cooler
arrangement a kind of mini header-tank forward of the firewall so there will
be one less fuel line in the cabin. I have an original Subaru submerged
(car) fuelpump in the left and one in the right tank, one way valve on each
side, their respective switches are my fuel selectors. But I have full
systempressure going by my left ear and the passengers right ear, i.e. not
just gravity flow. But so far so good. I hate to go against the experts, but
I find that "fire-wall and all that goes with it, back three inches" a very
extreme measure. Maybe not even necessary with the 0-320, but for sure not
needed with the Legacy installation you are planning. You are going to have
some heavy electrical cabling with the aft battery installation, but it sure
beats that scary(to me) fire-wall back 3 inches business. One plus point
for my fuel pump set-up and knock on wood of course, at least I don't have
to sweat a lack of tank venting (a serious early Rebel problem). You can
have the best engine, the best c.g. situation but if you are not getting the
proper fuel flow to your engine, that can cause stoppage at the most
critical times, you are flying around with some serious trouble. I mention
this only to remind one and all: DO NOT USE sloshing compound inside your
fueltanks. There are other ways to fix any leaks you may have. That's it,
I'll be quiet again for a month. Geert Frank
