SR3500 Aileron horns

Post by Reed, Britt/FSC Salt Lake » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:58 pm

I just drilled my first aileron horn along the spar (measured by tucking
under the aileron skin - and am concerned that the tip of the horn may
interfere with the wing spar - the tip of the horn is 3/8" forward of the
tip of the horn ribs (i.e. not flush) - anyone with the ailerons mounted
have a feel for the clearance? - I would hate to have to backup later make
it fit -

Thanks -

Britt - SR194

SR3500 Aileron horns

Post by Al & Deb Paxhia » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:58 pm

Britt,
I'm not sure I understand the question, but that doesn't stop me from trying
to answer anyway. The Aileron horn does rotate close to the rear wing spar.
This is not a problem on the ailerons but the flaps use the same hinge line.
Where the flap horn rotates in the area of the rear wing spar attach fitting
I had interference with the bolts. To resolve the problem I used nutplates
in the tank and reversed the bolts. I don't know how the fast build wings
are setup.

SR3500 Aileron horns

Post by Reed, Britt/FSC Salt Lake » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:58 pm

Al & Deb - Thanks for the reply - I think I am ok - I was talking about the
area where the Aileron weights are attached to the spades/horns - Scott
Aldrich called and pointed out that the wing spar does not extend past the
outboard aileron hinge (I thought it might be like the Horizontal Stab) and
it is the tip fiberglass that is trimmed to fit around the aileron outboard
tip - I dug around on the MAM CD and found the photo on Chapter 15 (Aileron
Install) MVC-014s and note that the horn tip comes nowhere near the main
spar. Thanks for the tip on the bolt interferance - I will definately use
nutplates. (I wish I had fastbuild wings) -
