I'd be interested in feedback on the subject.
In the manual, it says I should rig for +/- 25 deg elevator travel. By
simple geometry, that works out at +/-43 deg of stick travel, which is
(a) ergonomically impossible and (b) exceeds the rotation limits of the
ball ends in the short aileron pushrod. Talked to Brian, who says "you
don't need anything like that, more like +20 deg and -10 deg". What are
people using? Of course the problem could be fixed by shortening the
horn length at the elevator, but by all accounts, the system is highly
enogh geared as it is.

Hi Al !
I'd be inclined to agree with Brian. Can't say for sure
for the Elite - thought some of those flying might have chimed
in with their <actual> travel measurements ...
For the Rebel, I won't do a test flight unless they have
at least 27 degrees of UP elevator (anywhere up to 30 degrees),
but the DOWN is pretty unimportant - you don't need a lot, even
to lift the tail on takeoff. Suspect this may not be as vital
on the Elite, but can't confirm.
I'd suggest just getting as much travel as you can comfortably
get with the existing rods - that's likely what all of those now
flying have done. If there's a choice, definitely go for more
UP than DOWN, though - hopefully you can get more travel than Brian's
suggestion.

he felt -17 or so was okay

Someone recently was asking how much up and down
elevator for the Elite. I was just looking at one today
in the final stages of building, and took the
opportunity to measure the elevator travel.
Up elevator was about 22 degrees and down was about 18
degrees. This particular one has the stock tips and
span, no mods.
Just to be clear, though, this one is not yet flying.

Dear Builders,
I was checking the message archives today and found some information on
rigging the elevator -- Brian suggested 10 degrees down and 20 degrees up
would suffice ... Bob suggests 25-30 degrees up.
Without cutting the stick down I can get about 12 degrees down to 25 up
(plus or minus playing with the turnbuckles). Do you this is enough to get
the nose down for stall recovery?
Almost ready for the procession to the airport and wing attach.
By the way, I built the four-door cowl with the aluminum strip around the
nosebowl. Is there any trick to getting the forward edges of the aluminum
doors to lay down flush? I'm not expert with the shrinker/stretcher.
