Hello to all,
It look like the summer promotion from MAM worked very well. A lot of
people are now joining the group. I bought a Rebel Elite (#660) which should
also be deliver a end of August. Those guy will have a lot of work!
I am Gaetan Tremblay and I am located in Lorraine, Quebec, just north of
Montreal. I am also president of RAA Montreal Chapter. Like all new
builders, I am working to setup my garage and the table.
I am reading this list for some month. What surprise me is the amount of
enthusiam we can feel from everybody. I am happy to join the group and I
hope I could participate more actively in the future.
There is not much said about the Elite. I hope this is because there is not
much problems! Any information will be greatly appreciated either by the
group or by direct mail.
To Ian Donaldson: Australia is not so far, just one click away. We could
keep in touch.
Regards to all,
Gaetan Tremblay, Elite #660

Hi Gaetan ! Welcome to the list. Did you decide on a tricycle gear ?
It was a pleasure to meet you at Oshkosh.
You don't hear too much about the Elite because there are only 2 of them
flying, so far. That will be changing soon, we hope ! Because there is
very little long-term experience, there are relatively few suggestions
to be made re: areas to "beef up", or changes to make. Some of the things
that Rebel builders have done - like door latches and air vents - can be
readily used on the Elite, and might be worthwhile additions.
Have fun, and don't be afraid to ask for help !

Hello Gaetan
You are right about the lack of traffic on the list about the Elite, I think
it
is because there are not many in construction yet compared to the Rebels.
In
any case, we (my spouse Francine Desharnais and I) have #582 and have been
progressing slowly. Our progress has been slow mainly due to work related
issues and some on corrosion protection treatments.
#582 is one of the early Elites (and trigear) and we have had a few glitches
we
attribute to early production parts (like manual not agreeing exactly with
the
parts etc.) but in general all is going well and we are happy with the kit.
At
this point we have completed (to inspection stage) the rudder and fin and
will
be finishing the elevator today and the stabilizer in the next few weeks.
We are near Halifax Nova Scotia and we would welcome hearing from you and
trading information on the Elite.

Hello BobP,
It was a pleasure to meet you and all the MAM peoples (should I say Mom?).
Now the more difficult part is to wait few weeks for the kit delivery.
I still didn't decide on the gear type. There is not much people that fly
with the nosedragger so I could not get much information. I will probably
stay with the taildragger since I want to go on ski.
I begin to read the archives but is is a long job. Could you direct me to
some of the best notes which could be of much interest for the newcomers. I
am now looking for info on shop setup, tooling and anti-corrosion stuff.
I'm sure that there will be more and more talk about the Elite. We are now
four to start building it in Quebec. I'm sure we will have questions...
I already have fun following this mailing list. I'm not affraid and you'll
see, in four years, I will be better in writing english than french . ;-)
Happy riveting,
Gaetan
