Fiberglass parts

Post by rickhm » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:28 pm

The parts that come from MAM are covered with a grey soft coat under which is a harder epoxy coat. THe grey appears to be a filler. I am glassing the fin fairing together and have sanded down to the raw glass. My question is are people leaving the grey on or sanding it off? It seems to be very soft and easily removed with masking tape. THoughts?

fiberglass parts

The general consensus here seems to be that if you are finishing /
bonding parts sand down to, but not into, the glass cloth. Finish with
a kiss of #80 or #100 to give a "tooth" for the primer / bonding resin.
