wing tip attach

Post by Walter Klatt » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:28 pm

I'm sure most will tell you here to make them removable
with rivnuts or some kind of anchor nuts with screws.
However, in my case, by the time I got to attaching my
wing tips, I decided I had sufficient practice and
skills at drilling out rivets, so I just went the quick
and easy route, and riveted them on. So far no regrets.

Hello All

What is the best way to install wing tips?
Of course I have already drilled
all the holes as shown for riveting.I've
also got wingtip lights which may
require removing the tips at some point in
time.Should I use self tapping
screws? To rivet floating riv nuts would be
a big job, clip nuts may work for
one wing but the flange on the other is the
wrong way.

Advise me please.

Thanks
Murray

Murray, clip nuts CAN be used on both wings. One wing you can clip over the
flange and rib from the outside and on the other wing you have to slide them
between the wing skin and the rib flange from inside the wing. You can also
use sheet metal screws. #8 in a #40 hole and big ugly #10's if you have
already drilled to #30 for rivets.

Cheers,
Wayne
